Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What do Boys & Girls Clubs have to offer?
A: In a nutshell, it is a safe place for children that is supervised by trained, professional staff who provide fun, engaging activities at an affordable price. A wide variety of programming offers many opportunities for kids to make friends, learn skills, receive academic help and find new interests. Some programs that are offered include art and music, technology, homework help, sports, games and more.
Q: What hours are you open?
A: Boys & Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula is open after school at 3:00 pm and closes at 7:00 pm Monday thru Thursday (1:30-6:00 pm on Fridays). When Ocean Beach School District is on an early release schedule, we are open after school until 6:00. We also follow the Ocean Beach School District Calendar regarding closures (if the School District is closed, so is Club).
Q: How old do the children have to be?
A: Boys & Girls Club serves youth ages 6-18. If a child is 6 years old and is currently in Kindergarten, they are able to come for a trial period to see if they are ready for the social aspect of club.
Q: Is there transportation to and from Club?
A: We are working out bus transportation from Ocean Park Elementary and Long Beach Elementary after school. Middle school aged members are picked up by a staff member at Hilltop and walk down to Club as a group. At 6:00 p.m. the activity bus leaves Club and drops the youth off at the Chinook Store, Long Beach Elementary and Ocean Park Elementary.
Q: How do I sign my child up?
A: Membership forms can be found at the Club location or can be downloaded from this page. Please fill out the form completely and return it to the Club or send it with your child to school as the school secretaries will send the application with the buses.
Q: How much does Boys & Girls Club cost?
A: The cost for a one year membership is $50. Our membership fee is low because we want every child to have an opportunity to belong to the Boys & Girls Club. As a not-for-profit organization, we are fortunate enough to have partners and donors who support our programming to keep memberships low. Occasionally, we will have special events that have an additional cost that are optional for members.
Q: Do you accept donated items that have been used?
A: Thank you for thinking of us! We accept items that are in good condition and can be used by our Club (art supplies, unused paper, sewing supplies, sports equipment in good condition, office products [or furniture, but call to see if we have a need or space], and many other items … just contact us and ask!) To donate an item please stop by, give us a call at 360.642.8668, or email us at email@example.com.
Q: Are there any volunteer opportunities available?
A: We have many volunteer opportunities available. Whether you are interested in mentoring youth, fundraising, Board of Directors or Board Committee Membership, running a program, or behind the scenes help, there is a place for you. Please contact us to find out about volunteer opportunities.
