Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What do Boys & Girls Club have to offer?

A: In a nutshell, it is a safe place for kids that is supervised by a trained, professional staff who provide fun, engaging programs at an affordable price. A wide variety of programming offers many opportunities for kids to make friends, learn skills and find new interests. Some programs that are offered include leadership and volunteering clubs, homework help, sports, games and more.

Q: What hours are you open?

A: Boys & Girls Club of the Long Beach Peninsula is open after school at 3:00 and closes at 7:00. When Ocean Beach School District is on an early release schedule, we are open after school until 6:00.

Q: How old do the kids have to be?

A: Boys & Girls Club serves youth ages 6-18. If a child is 6 years old and is currently in Kindergarten, they are able to come for a trial period to see if they are ready for the social aspect of club.

Q: Is there transportation to and from Club?

A: There is a bus that brings kids from both Ocean Park Elementary and Long Beach Elementary after school. Middle school aged members are picked up by a staff member at Hilltop and walk down to Club as a group. At 6:00 p.m. the activity bus leaves Club and drops kids off at the Chinook Store, Long Beach Elementary and Ocean Park Elementary.

Q: How do I sign my kid up?

A: Membership forms can be found at the Club location or can be downloaded from this page. Please fill out the form completely and return it to Club or send it with your child to school as the school secretaries will send them with the buses.

Q: How much does Boys & Girls Club cost?

A: The cost for a one year membership is $25. Our membership fee is low because we want every child to have an opportunity to belong to the Boys & Girls Club. As a not-for-profit organization, we are fortunate enough to have partners and donors who support our programming to keep memberships low. Occasionally we will have special events that have an additional cost that are optional for members.

Q: Do you accept donated items that have been used?

A: Thank you for thinking of us! We accept items that are in good condition and can be used by our Club. To donate an item please stop by or give us a call.

Q: Are there any volunteer opportunities available?

A: We have many volunteer opportunities available. Whether you are interested in mentoring youth, running a program, or behind the scenes help, there is a place for you. Please contact us to find out about volunteer opportunities.
